Warm, rich, clear and dynamic are all words
used to
describe Cindy Townsend in various roles including Nedda
(Pagliacci), Liù (Turandot), Susannah (Susannah), and
Musetta (La Bohème). Ms.Townsend received her operatic training at
the University of Toronto. From there, her career has taken her
from a European debut in Mozart’s Cosi fan Tutte in Germany and
the Czech Republic to her hometown of Saint John with Opera New
Brunswick as Susanna (Le Nozze di Figaro) and Musetta (La Bohème).
Other roles have included, Mrs. Gleaton (Carlisle Floyd's
Susannah) for Opera Ontario, Alice Ford (Falstaff) for Toronto’s

Shivaree) with Toronto's Opera in Concert.
Among many concert appearances, Cindy highlights fund raisers for
charitable organizations including GIVE International, Big
Brothers/Big Sisters, Salvation Army, Intercity Angels and the
Humane Society.
Chamber music has always been a staple for Cindy and she is proud
to have been a part of many debuts of new repertoire, particularly
that of Canadian Women composers, some recorded and some to be
recorded in the coming year. She has frequently appeared as
soprano soloist with Canadian Chamber Music ensemble Ardeleana.
Cindy Townsend is an artist who loves the process of creating from
the ground up and has done so on many projects including “Belle
Nuit”, a program that Cindy co-wrote comprised of solos and duets
from Opera to Music Theatre to Big Band and Jazz. The latter are
the roots from which this singer comes, being the daughter of a
trumpet playing Big Band leader. Belle Nuit has toured in the
Maritime Provinces as well as in Ontario.
Cindy currently resides in Toronto with her husband Danny and
their little girl Marasia.
"...there seems to be no end in sight, for this young singer
has the capacity to feel deeply that which is inherent in the
music..."
